The New Mexico Council of Guides and Outfitters is a non-profit corporation formed in 1978 to promote hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation in New Mexico while working with both state and federal governments to protect and improve out state's wildlife resources and their habitat. The Council serves as the advocate for professional hunting, fishing and recreation outfitters and guides in the state, and provides a voice for non-resident sports people and recreationists.The Council also strives to promote and enhance the outdoor recreation industry in New Mexico, bringing in millions of new dollars each year into our state's rural economies in an environmentally friendly industry based upon one of our states greatest renewable resources, our wildlife.

The Council currently has over 400 members enrolled, including outfitters, guides and associated sportsmen. Two general membership meetings are held each year, a winter meeting usually held in January and a summer meeting held in June. These meetings are open to all members and non-business portions of the meetings are open to the interested public. In addition, regularly scheduled quarterly meetings of the Board of Directors and Officers are held, along with adjunct meetings as necessary.
