9-10am: Taxation and Revenue Department - Steven Olszewski
Steven Olszewski, a representative for the NM Taxation and Revenue Department, will discuss recent changes to the tax code and gross receipts tax requirements for outfitters and guides.
10-10:45: Employees vs Independent Contractors - Janette Duran
A UNM Graduate Student of NM Labor Law will provide a presentation on the difference between hiring a guide as an employee as opposed to an independent contractor. She will discuss the benefits and costs of both scenarios as well as best labor law practices for your operation.
11:00am: Bear and Cougar Rule - NMDGF Biologists
It's that time again...time for the NMDGF to revise the 4 year rule cycle for the Bear and Cougar rules. NMDGF biologists will be on hand to provide a preliminary presentation on their thoughts about how the rule might be revised and amended for the next 4 years. They will also listen suggestion from attendees regarding changes outfitters would like to see made to the rules. If you hunt Bear and/or Lion you definitely want to catch this presentation!

1-3pm: Statewide Special Use Permits - Elizabeth Dykstra
Representatives from the Southwest Regional Office of the Forest Service will provide a presentation on the progress of the Statewide Special Use Permit Proposal which NMCOG and the FS has been working to establish for the past 3+ years. We’re getting close to being able to implement the proposal so you do not want to miss this.
3:15-4pm: Insurance - Jake & Josh Lujan
These brothers from HUB International will provide a presentation on outfitter and guide insurance including the best way to protect your operation against liability. They will also be able to provide insight on the best coverage for specific types of outfitter operations.
4-4:30pm: Industry Report - Kerrie Romero (NMCOG)
Well wrap up the afternoon with a brief update on the status of the outfitting industry. We’ll discuss the newly appointed State Game Commission and what that means for the outfitting industry. We’ll also be discussing issues that the industry may be faced with in the near future and NMCOG’s strategy to protect and promote outfitting/guiding in NM.
